When Was Your Last Teeth Cleaning?

Exercising good dental hygiene not only prevents tooth decay and gum disease, but also contributes to one's overall health. Daily brushing and flossing can help prevent you from getting gum diseases and other health problems from ensuing. But despite your efforts, dental plaques and stains can build up on tooth surfaces that can only be removed by dental professionals. Or you may have developed gum infections/diseases that will need to be treated by our professionals.

To address some of the issues above and to assist you with maintaining good dental hygiene, Noa Dental offers complete oral care services that go beyond routine six months standard cleaning; they include oral cancer screenings, decay preventions, deep cleaning, and ultrasonic cleanings

Routine / Regular Cleaning - Ultrasonic
Routine / Regular cleaning consists of removing plaques and calculus/tartar (a hardened dental plaque) that are above the gumline using ultrasonic scalers. During your visit, if severe stains, calculus/tartar below your gumline, and/or deep pockets (space between your gum and teeth) with gum inflammations are detected, routine cleaning may not be enough and you may have gum diseases / infections that need to treated. In these cases, we will recommend our Gum Infection Therapy to be performed.

For those who are sensitive for even a routine cleaning, we have a special numbing gel that we can apply before your cleaning to make sure you are comfortable all the way through. Just mention that your teeth are sensitive to cleaning prior to starting and we will make the accommodation.
Gum Infection Therapy
During a Gum Infection Therapy, a dental professional will remove the plaque, calculus/tartar, and infections via a method called Scaling & Root Planing. Scaling will remove the tartar from above and below the gumline. Root planing smoothes the rough spots on the roots (typical area for germ/bacteria infestation) that contribute to the disease; this will help the gums to reattach to the roots better. After the Scaling & Root Planing is done, the exposed space between the gum and the teeth are cleansed with an antiseptic solution followed by application of a topical antibiotic gel to eradicate any remaining bacteria.

Gum Infection Therapy typically done in two phases/visits to allow healing of one side by using the other side for chewing; and only one side may be numbed at a time.

Ultrasonic Cleanings
This is where the dentist at Noa Dental step in: A simple ultrasonic scaling procedure is performed using small instruments to remove hard plaque trapped beneath the gums.

Ultrasonic scalers act primarily to remove plaque and stains from tooth surfaces in areas that normal brushing and flossing can't reach. A substantial build-up of tartar creates an environment that harbors gum disease, and cleaning these areas can act to prevent gingivitis, tooth decay, and loss of enamel from teeth.
Decay Prevention
You don't have any cavities? Great news! To keep it that way, we can place a dental sealant that can act as a barrier to prevent bacteria from forming cavity on your back teeth . They are plastic materials that are applied to the chewing surface of the back teeth where decay occurs most often. This is a quick and painless treatment that could provide great protection for your teeth. Ask about sealants on your next visit to a dentist.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Majority of oral cancers are detected in the dental office. What causes oral cancer? There are many factors but the major ones include smoking and/or chewing tobacco, heavy alcolhol use, genetics (history of oral cancer in the family), and presence of HPV (Human papillomavirus)-16. The dental care team at Noa Dental will perform the screening on your exam visits taking a closer look at the common oral cancer sites for signs of any abnormality.
